Well done!
Faye in P7 recently won a prestigious poetry competition. Read below in her own words, exactly what it was.
The poetry competition I entered was called the Ledbury Poetry Competition, and it attracted over 1500 entries!!!!! The judge was Deryn Rees-Jones who is a poet and a professor (like in Harry Potter!) of English, in the University of Liverpool. It took her five months to read ALL of the poems!
My poem, 'Our House,' got a special judge's commendation. I didn't even know my Mum had sent it to the competition, it was one of the many forgotten ones I wrote on her phone in about three minutes! When she found it (as she tells me now) she thought it was 'quite good', pffft! She sent it off without telling me, she just told me a day after school. At first I thought I was in trouble with the way her voice sounded. Anyway, it made my day and I'm very pleased! I definitely want to be a writer!
Our House
Our house has the usual sound,
Of Granny's needles clicking,
Of Grandpa's deep snoring,
Of Mum's (failed) cooking,
Of Dad's foot tapping,
Of Auntie's phone
-keyboard clicking
Of Uncle's story
-nobody listening
Of Molly play-acting her Barbie dolls
Of Tom shouting at the football on the telly.
And I make no noise,
But observe my surroundings.
