12th May 2020

Good morning - Hopefully everyone is still well. Thankfully all of the staff and families in St Patrick's are keeping well too. Let's hope it continues.

Today on Newsdesk the article is a very interesting one about the effects lock down has had on the environment. Less traffic and pollution has meant that many animals are benefitting. More people are working from home and believe that they can continue to do so when things return to normal. More time spent with families and less time in the car! I know that lots of you will have been walking and cycling far more than normal. I’m sure you’ve enjoyed it.

Junior Newsdesk celebrates the 200th birthday of a very famous lady, Florence Nightingale. Born on the 12th May 1820, she was one of the first people to recognise the importance of good hygiene. Now more important than ever. She was a very determined lady who changed nursing forever. Today is also International Nurses Day – thanks to all of them who have been so busy during this emergency. If you know a nurse, today is the day to give them a call and say thanks.

Healthy Kidz Virtual Sports Day started this week, hopefully you were able to get registered in time. Go to: https://tinyurl.com/ycszfmwy for all of the details. Events to focus on this week are the sprint and long jump. It’s important to build in exercise every day and this could be a great way of doing something different. There are some excellent tips in the Healthy Kidz booklet. For sprinting remember to move your hands, ‘Lip to Hip.’ The standing long jump is a good one for all of the family to try out. I look forward to hearing about just how well you’ve done and remember there's prizes to be won as well.

Thanks to everyone for your great pictures. I've also seen some of them on Seesaw, but cannot use these on our website. If you'd like to share pics, please e-mail to: info@stpatrickspssaul.downpatrick.ni.sch.uk

Remember to keep praying for those who are sick or alone and those people who are working so hard to look after them. Pray for everyone who is so busy looking after you and still working to ensure we have everything we need. We are so grateful.

Stay safe.

Today’s joke:

Why couldn't the pony sing himself a lullaby?

He was a little hoarse.
