21st May 2020

Good morning – I hope everyone is still well. I’m sure you are all looking forward to mid-term next week. We are nearing the end of Mental Health Awareness Week. Today on our kindness planner we are asked to spread some kindness. Remember that one kind word can change someone’s entire day!

Titanic people are the focus on Newsdesk today. You can read about the sad story of Samuel Scott, a fifteen-year-old boy, who was a worker who helped build the famous ship. There is an interview with author Nicola Pierce who wrote a book about Samuel and there’s also an interesting interview with Edith Russell, a survivor of the disaster.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle are three words we may see and hear a lot, but do we actually take any heed of them? Junior Newsdesk gives us a little more information on how it is so important to use the three Rs as often as possible. I know that since lockdown, my blue and brown bins have been filling up very quickly. Thank goodness some key workers, our bin men, have been busy working away this whole time! There’s a great family challenge to see who can create the least waste each day.

Week 2 of Healthy Kidz Virtual Sports Day continues and the two events this week are the egg & spoon and the high jump. Have you been practicing? Any photos? I’m practising the high jump tonight. Looking forward to it!

Home activity packs for various age groups on the ThinkUKnow website. This website helps with online safety and they have some easy to follow activities available for primary and post primary children. Just follow the link: https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/Support-tools/home-activity-worksheets/

P4, P5, P6, P7 have been working on Mathletics this week for the first time and oh my goodness! You have been setting some very high scores. Keep it up! We are learning how it works as you complete the assigned tasks, so bear with us please. Everyone should log in before the end of the week, so we know that the links are working. Thank you.

Thanks to everyone for your great pictures. Paul built his own cruise ship in his shed, which looks great. Eva really suits her leaver’s jumper. I've also seen some of your photos on Seesaw, but cannot use these on our website. If you'd like to share pics, please e-mail to: info@stpatrickspssaul.downpatrick.ni.sch.uk

During May we continue to say our prayers to Mary. Remember to keep praying for those who are sick or alone and those people who are working so hard to look after them. Pray for everyone who is so busy looking after you and still working to ensure we have everything we need. We are so grateful.

Stay safe.

Today’s joke:

What did the llama say when he got kicked out of the zoo?

Alpaca my bags! (Oh come on, you’re bound to be smiling now!)
