P7 memories of St Patrick's!

17th Jun 2020

I have lots of favourite memories at my time at St Patrick’s Primary. The friends I have made, the teachers who were so kind and the fun times we have.

Out of all the years I will never forget the day a pigeon flew into Miss Maguire’s class when we were in P6. Everyone started to panic and scream, including Miss Maguire. She flapped a book trying to get the bird out but in the end Mr McGrath had to come to the rescue and set the bird free.

Ava

For me, P6 was my favourite class. Miss Maguire was so gentle and kind that there were no nerves in my body when I was around her. Miss Maguire always had a smile on her face which made me always smile. If I was upset or stuck on an English or maths problem, then I would talk to her.

My best memory of P6 was our trip to the YMCA!

When we went there, there were lots of different schools there too.

A worker took us to a room to put our stuff into.

I remember there was a large wooden wall that we had to walk down! I thought that when I get to the top I would be fine!!! But when it was my turn I was absolutely terrified and was scared to go down. But once everyone went down, I then went down! I looked down and literally thought I was going to faint and collapse. But when it was my turn I did it!!!! Mrs Maguire was very proud of me and so was I!!!

P3-My favourite memory is when Mrs Kernan came up with a Euros tournament for P4-7, so me and my friends just missed out on it. Mrs Kernan made us our own Euros just for P3 because she was our teacher. I remember we were split into 4 teams Ireland, England, Italy and France I was the captain of Italy, but I missed the last match because I was on holiday in America. My mummy tells me that this was the point where I became obsessed with Football.

Jack

I was worried about p.7 because of the transfer test and the really hard work but looking back it was worth it. For our Christmas play I was angel Gabriel and I loved it, I was so happy. We had our confirmation which I was nervous about but it was a lovely day, I remember the photo at the end was so boring and my cheeks were hurting but I had to look nice. One day Mr McGrath came in and told us about our leavers hoodies which we all were excited about and the whole class lit up with joy. Primary school was a small part of my life but I never will regret it and will miss it, my teachers and my class so much.         Eva

I have lots of good memories of St Patrick’s Primary School Saul. One of the best was being part of the Credit Union Team in P7. This started off as a class quiz, from this – Jack, Eve, Rachel & Me were put into the younger team & were told we were going to The Great Hall in Downpatrick for a County Down Quiz! We were very nervous on the Friday afternoon but we worked really well as a team & answered lots of questions, we came 2nd! A couple of weeks later we were invited to The Park Avenue Hotel in Belfast for the Northern Ireland finals. I was very nervous but my mum & dad were there to support me & brought lots of sweets. The questions were very hard but we did well and came 5th out of about 15 schools. I am very proud of this achievement & enjoyed being part of the quiz team!

My favourite memory was when I was in P4 for Holy Communion I really enjoy being able to take the sacrament. After Holy Communion I loved getting pictures and having buns back at school. After that Grace, Carolyn and I all went to the Burrendale for dinner with our family. We then went outside and we played in the river and about on the grass and took more pictures. The food was amazing. Then me and my whole family went back to my house for another party and my mum made some really nice snacks. I played with my cousins then after this we all stayed over at my nannies house. Holy Communion was amazing and such a magical day.

Favourite memory in Saint Patricks was paddle boarding in YMCA it was really fun.   When we got our life jackets, helmets and wet suits on we got the bus to Castlewellen Forrest Park. When we got there we had to carry the paddle boards pretty far to the lake. Me and Ben shared a small paddle board. After that we all got onto the big paddle board to play games. In one of them the instructor threw a rubber duck away out in the water then we had to dive off the paddle board and race after it to see who could get it first. When it was time to go we got to get on to our paddle boards and go down the lake I really enjoyed it.

My Favourite Memories by Christa

I have lots of lovely memories of St. Patrick’s Primary school. In P.6 we went to YMCA and went waterboarding, it was really fun. We jumped off a wall too while we were wearing a harness; I felt excited. In P. 7 I went to Breakfast Club: Mrs McDowell makes delicious toast and I loved going in early in the morning and eating toast and chatting with Orla and my breakfast club friends. Cara, Orla, Rachel, Freddie, Rory and me all sat at the same table in P.7, we laughed a lot at our table and told loads of jokes and I will really miss that.

Going into P4 I thought it would be really strange because my mum would be teaching me but it wasn’t that bad. I didn’t think I needed to make my homework as good because my mum was marking it. I was wrong.

A memory from P4 was when I made my First Holy Communion. It was a very special day. The night before I was feeling sick and my mum thought it was just nerves – it wasn’t. It started out as a really fun and exciting day. I got onto the altar and did my reading with no problems, however, apparently my face was a bit green. When I got down to my seat I really didn’t feel good and without any warning I was sick all over the floor! All I could hear was my brother laughing and my nana telling him to stop. My mum couldn’t even help me because she was on the altar with the other readers. My dad and grandad took me outside for some air. Poor Mrs Sealey and Mrs Rice had to find a mop to clean the floor! I was lucky making it back in church in time to receive Holy Communion. Donall and Padraig were afraid to sit anywhere near me in the seat. Luckily there was some good out of it - I made a fiver from someone I’d never met who felt sorry for me so it was definitely worth it!

Not only did I sleep through my party but no-one was allowed any of the cake because I definitely wasn’t fit to eat it! The next Saturday all the boys came to my house for a party and we ate all the sweets, ice-cream and cake I wasn’t able to eat for the week before. There were a few green faces leaving my house that day.

In P7 on the 14th of February 2020 we went to the church to get Confirmed. I was a part of the offertory, and after a prayer we got up and went to the back of the church [Where my family sat] and waited for the time to come down the walkway to the alter and then handed Father Murray the offertory. I moved around quite a lot for the offertory, communion and getting confirmed with my brother Shea as my sponsor. Afterwards me and my family went bowling then to Paddy’s barn. Confirmation being one of the seven sacraments was and is an important part of my life, and so I will remember it for the rest of it. Going in I felt a bit nervous, but I got though it good enough, I felt happy after because the whole ceremony went fine, and all the confirmation work was done.

Having attended St Patrick’s PS for seven years, I have many fabulous and fond memories and it has been hard to pick just one. However, one memory that I will take away with me is when I was selected for two consecutive years to take part in Athletics NI, representing our school. It felt amazing to be chosen. I was so happy!

Ben

My favourite P4 memory is when Mrs Jordan told us that we would be making our own dream bedroom. I was so excited when I told my mum. She got so creative and smart and my dad printed a lot of stuff which helped me. I decided that we needed a light in it. When we stuck everything together, we brought it in and showed it to everyone. Mrs Jordan was super impressed. I got a well done sticker that smelt of jelly beans.

Malachi.

I really liked playing with the P1s, but there was one who l really liked; his name is Adam. He was kind, a bit shy and reminded me of me. I loved playing with him and if he was sad I would try and cheer him up.

Aaron.

My favourite memory was when we went to YMCA in P6 for a school trip. I was so excited to go as everyone told me it was amazing!

When we arrived we got split into 2 groups. Our 1st activity was ab-sailing I was so scared I thought I was going to fall! I wasn’t going to do it until my sister did it and if she did it then I had to do it too. It was actually really fun and wasn’t scary at all! We also went paddle boarding which was really fun, it took me ages to be able to stand up on the board! The instructors but a big paddle board in the water and we ran on it and jumped into the water, I tried to do a front flip into the water like some of the others but I was too scared!

We went canoeing and played lots of games in the water which was really fun! When we were finished canoeing we had to put blindfolds on and try to complete an obstacle course! It was really hard and I felt as if I was going to get lost!

After that we had lunch and played games. We got all our stuff packed up and then waited for the bus. This is definitely my favourite school trip we’ve been on!

Grace

I remember doing circle time, where we got to talk about our problems, worries or anything that upset us. We always looked out for each other.

I also loved the countdown to Christmas. Every year was so exciting from practicing to performing our Christmas play, Christmas dinners with music and games and wearing our Christmas jumpers.  I was excited every day to see what classroom buddy wrecked.

Alana

In P7 I loved playing my part in the Christmas play, it was really fun. I really enjoyed performing on the stage with my friends. I was wise man and got to sing and dance and I would definitely want to do it again.

Matthew

My P.7. teacher is Mrs. Green.

My favourite memory was buddying the P.1. class and helping them settle into Primary School. It was fun playing games with them at break and lunch time.

I will never forget P.7. because all of a sudden we weren’t able to go to school anymore because of the Corona Virus pandemic. We had to communicate with friends and teachers on-line which was new but was good to at least have that as we weren’t allowed to go anywhere to meet!

Kerrie.

The memory which means the most to me is when in P6 I qualified for the finals of the NI

Primary Schools Athletics Final. I had run in two races to qualify and was so excited to make

it to the final and represent my school. On the day of the face I was so nervous but also

really happy. I was the only one from my school to go so my dad took me but we forgot my

spikes for my running shoes and had to go to Decathlon and buy new ones. I was so scared

we were going to be late but we made it on time. I was so proud to wear my school top and

race against loads of other children. I didn't win but came in the top 30 and Mr McGrath gave

me a certificate at assembly later that week.

Erin

P1

In P1 I didn’t like going in. Some days Mr McGrath had to carry me in. When I got in I was fine. I didn’t know anyone except Ava & Donall because we went to the same nursery.

P7

I was really looking forward to P7 because you get to play for the school team and get to play in the Pat Watterson Cup. I’m gutted to be missing it. ❤️💚

Padraig

One of my memories of P.1 was on the first day when I came in early with my daddy and sister. I stayed in my daddy’s office until it was time for school. I got to draw a picture so I drew one for my daddy that says,” I love you Dade.” I remember struggling to write Dad. Another memory is when we were getting ready for a story and everyone was talking so Mrs McDowell put everyone on the cloud, some people started crying and I think Mrs. McDowell got sick of it so she took them off the cloud. I remember our Christmas Play “Whoops a Daisy Angel.” I was a Narrator and had to wear really itchy tinsel! Erin and I shared a few lines. I was a bit shy in P.1 so I wasn’t that good in the play!

Orla

It’s hard to pick one memory but the one that stands out is Confirmation.

Confirmation was on Friday 14 February and at the time I didn’t realise that it would be the last big celebration that we would have as a class, so it will always stand out to me.

I chose my cousin Niamh as my sponsor as I look up to her and it was great that she could get the day off University to come to my Confirmation.

Claire was the Confirmation name I chose because I liked the name and the story behind St Claire.

In the Church Niamh’s twin brother Owen joined us and it was great to see him.

I read a Prayer of the Faithful.

Afterwards it was back to the school hall and I ate lots of nice buns and cakes.

Then we went to Artisan for lunch.

I really enjoyed my Confirmation and will also look back on it with special memories.

Cara

In P6 we went to the YMCA and it was amazing! We went on a massive zip line, paddle boarding and we had great fun! Ava was my partner on the bus, but sadly she didn’t get to enjoy anything. She wasn’t feeling at all good all day and even slept on the bus home.

The last proper day of P6 school we got to go on a gaelic blitz. It was great fun, until I broke my finger! I came home that day with a splint on it and I had to wear it all summer, I even missed Cul Camp.

Rachel

One of my favourite memories is of my Confirmation. It was a memory I will never forget when we were practicing for it.

I had a reading that said my name on it and I was the first person saying mine but then a few days later Mrs Green decided to change our order which we were sitting in and then she switched me and Carolyn so we also switched our readings  so then  I had to learn a whole new reading in like a day but it was still really fun.
