Birthday Cake all round!

28th Nov 2018

Today was the exact date in 2008 that Bishop Noel Treanor officially blessed and opened our new school building. After lunchtime, we gathered in the school hall and obeyed birthday tradition when we sang Happy Birthday and everyone got some cake! We even had a very special girl to cut the cake. Cara in P1 is the grand daughter of a man who worked diligently behind the scenes to ensure that a new school was built in Saul. While it took the efforts of many local people, Dermot Vint was the instigator. The longstanding Chair of our Board of Governors, he was adamant that the excellent teaching and learning St Patrick's was renowned for should be accommodated in more fitting, modern surroundings. After many years of meetings, surveys and reviews, work began in 2007. The new school building was ready for the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year, but unfortunately Dermot was unable to shake off his illness and he passed away shortly after the doors opened that September. It is fitting that in our tenth year here, his family once again have a direct connection with St Patrick's.
