Patrick grew up in a rich family, living in Roman Britain.
He knew all about God but didn't feel that he needed God.
One day, while Patrick was alone...
Pirates planned to capture Patrick.
Many young people were captured by pirates.
They were often in fear of being captured.
The pirates were fierce.
They captured the young, strong people in the area.

Even Patrick was captured by the pirates.
He was dragged away to their boat.
Then the slaves had to row to Ireland.

He was taken to Slemish to herd sheep.
Patrick had no friends, or language and little food.
He told us in his Confession that he prayed ...

and prayed up to 100 times a day.
After 6 years he dreamt of an escape.
He walked 200 miles and finally came to the ship.
Eventually the sailors let him onboard.
They rowed home.
Patrick was reunited with his family.
He said goodbye to become a priest.
He dreamt that the Irish people were calling him back.
He gathered some friends and returned to Ireland.
They left their families to spread the gospel.
They sailed down the Slaney River and landed in Saul.
Some locals were afraid.
Dichu, the local chieftain set his dogs on them.
Patrick calmed the dogs down.
He explained that he came in peace.
Dichu wanted to know about God and became baptised.
Patrick then set about baptising people.
More and more people believed in God.

Dich gave Patrick a barn to use as a church.
Patrick used shamrock to explain the Trinity.
Bishop Tassach of Raholp gave him his last Holy Communion before he died.
